Birthday Deals and Freebies

November 13, 2018

Last month was my birthday month and I’m always on the hunt for a great deal and a place to spend some of that birthday cash 🙂 Luckily so many of my favorite stores offer tons of birthday deals and freebies so I wanted to be sure to spread the word in case there are a few you haven’t heard of before! Also, none of these involve opening up a credit card with a store, that is something I pretty much never do. Keep in mind that most of these require you to sign up in advance to become a rewards member so be sure to sign up the next time you are in the store or click on any of the links below to sign up online so you won’t miss out when your birthday month comes around!

  • DSW – Rewards Members receive a $5 off discount during their birthday month on any purchase in-store or online.

  • Kendra Scott – You have probably already heard of the 50% off at Kendra Scott during the month of your birthday but did you know you can also use your kids and other relatives birthday discounts as well?! I had no idea I could use my kid’s birthday discount but you absolutely can as long as they are with you in the store at the time of purchase and you bring in their birth certificate! My twins turned three years old in August and I was able to get half off of two items! A nice gift for momma for surviving three years of twinsanity 🙂

  • Kirklands – 25% off any item (including items already on sale) anytime during your birthday month.

  • Madewell – Sign up in store or online to receive a $25 gift card during your birthday month. The gift card will be sent via e-mail after you sign up.

  • Sunglass Hut – Birthday coupon for $50 off $200 purchase or $20 off $100 purchase.

  • Ulta – Sign up for their rewards program and get double rewards points during your birthday month as well as a free birthday gift.

  • World Market – Receive 10 – 15 % off your entire purchase or a $10 off coupon during your birthday month.

  • Nekter Rewards members receive a free birthday shot.

  • Sugarfina Looove Sugarfina! Sign up to receive a free candy cube!

  • Starbucks Sign up to be a rewards member & receive a free drink (any size) on your birthday. FYI – this offer does expire within 24 hours of your actual birthday, they used to extend this offer for a longer period of time so be sure to hit up Starbucks on your actual bday for this one!

Money Saving Hacks at Chick-fil-A

July 12, 2018

I’m not really willing to admit the number of times per week I frequent the Chick-fil-A drive through…let’s just say I may or may not have had breakfast, lunch and dinner from there at some point this week. Our whole family loves it and I especially love the healthier salad options (absolute fav is the Market Salad). Not to mention their customer service is awesome!!! Cars can be backed up for half a mile at our location and somehow we still manage to get through the drive through in a matter of minutes. However, all of that convenience definitely comes at a cost so that’s why I started looking for some money saving hacks at Chick-fil-A and this is what I found:

I didn’t even know about this until recently and I’m so mad about all of the savings I’ve missed out on! After you download the Chick-fil-A One App you’ll receive a QR Code that will need to be scanned by the cashier each time you check out. Every time your code is scanned you earn points which adds up to free treats and of course the more you dine the more you save. We now get a free treat almost every time we go to Chick-fil-A which ends up saving around $3 – $5 per visit. You can also bypass the line by placing your order through the app.

App users also receive freebies when Chick-fil-A spotlights new menu items or for their 12 days of Christmas promotion when every day there is a free treat in store but ONLY for app users!

  • Trade in a Kids Meal Toy for a Free Icedream Cone or Cup

If your kids are anything like mine they already have 10000 kids meal toys laying around on the floor at home probably somewhere that mom is bound to trip on them so the last thing we need is one more!  When ordering a kid’s meal you can opt to skip the “kids premium” and allow your kids to have a sweet treat instead. Today the girls took their garden shovel kids meal toys back up to the register and traded them in for an icedream cone for free and as you can see they were very happy with that substitution.

  • Free Mommy Meal for Expectant Moms

Contact your local Chick-fil-A for information on how to register for this one. Our Chick-fil-A offers a free mommy meal to expectant moms that arrives in the form of this certificate in the mail close to your due date. This is so nice to have when the baby arrives and you don’t want to eat the yucky hospital food, or when you return home and life is just too hectic to cook. The mommy meal from our Chick-fil-A includes a 6-count of chocolate chunk cookies!!!

I was told the Chick-fil-A Cow Calendars are sold during the months of November through January (while supplies last). The calendar offers different free treats each month all year long. Take a look at this year’s monthly offerings.

  • Split Adult Meals Between Kids

I save roughly $1.25 by ordering one 12 -count nugget meal for $7.65 (before tax) instead of two chicken nugget kids meals for $8.90. This is if you want to forgo the toy and option for free ice cream. I know $1.25 doesn’t sound like a lot of savings but it definitely adds up when you frequent Chick-fil-A as often as we do!

  • Free Breakfast for Seniors

This is a great way to treat grandma or grandpa to a free breakfast! Again, check your local Chick-fil-A for info on this one. Our’s offers a free breakfast for seniors 65 years and older every Wednesday morning.

Keep in mind that all Chick-fil-A locations are franchises which are all individually owned and operated and events and promotions may vary depending on the location. The best way to know what deals are happening at your Chick-fil-A is to follow your store’s location on Facebook.  Find you nearest location here.

Savings at Sea World

May 10, 2018

Weekend trip to SeaWorld San Antonio & The J.W. Marriott Hill Country Resort:

We are staying pretty close to home these days since I’m about 5 months preggo and the girls have a really hard time sitting still on an airplane (or anywhere). So, we decided to take a mini vacay to SeaWorld since it’s not too far from Houston and because we love the Shamu show! Also, SeaWorld is phasing out all of their Orca entertainment shows by 2019 so we really wanted to take the girls to see them before they’re gone! We also found some great savings at Sea World that I will share below.

Savings on Tickets & Dining:

You can save $5 per ticket when you purchase your tickets online 3 days in advance. We also saved by purchasing the all day dining tickets. It’s an additional $15 per ticket but you can eat every hour at the park and it’s easy to share all of that food with the kiddos. The cost of just one meal at the park was around $15 anyway so we definitely saved a lot with the all day dining pass. The pass is not valid at all restaurants at the park, mainly just the big restaurants that offer basic burgers, pizzas, sandwiches, salads etc. The food was not great but what you would expect to find at any theme park.

Children under 3 years old have free entrance into the park, our girls are two and a half so that worked out perfectly for us!

Best Attractions: Obviously the Shamu Show “One Ocean” is a must see but as mentioned Sea World is phasing out these theatrical shows by 2019 so go while you can! We went to both the 1:45 PM and the 5:30 PM showings. Both were great and very different shows but if you have an option the 5:30 PM one was the definitely the better of the two!

Other shows we loved were the Sea Lion High (pictured below) and Pets Ahoy. Both of these have several showings throughout the day. I think Pets Ahoy was our girl’s favorite, it was exciting for them to watch all of the different animals on the move – dogs running through different doors, cats walking across ropes and pigs and birds popping out of different parts of the stage. I found it so amazing to learn that several of the animals that perform in the show are rescues from local shelters!

The girls got really tired about halfway through the day and since we forgot to bring our stroller from home we ended up renting one at the park for about $22 which worked out great! They have both double and single stroller options available to rent. We stayed at the park from noon until close at 6 PM and we still didn’t get to see everything SeaWorld has to offer. In all we had a wonderful time and will definitely be planning to return next year!

Hotel Recommendation:  J.W. Marriott San Antonio Hill Country

There are so many great places to stay in San Antonio, including about a million different options around the river walk but since we have young kids we wanted more of an all-in-one resort style hotel. After getting several recommendations from friends we ended up staying at the J.W. Marriott San Antonio Hill Country and it was exactly what we were looking for!

What to Eat:

Most importantly, the food was amazing!!! The hotel offers several different restaurants on site, we decided to try the High Velocity Sports Bar for dinner our first evening. My husband loved watching the Astros game on the ginormous TV’s that scroll across the entire restaurant. High Velocity has a Vegas sports bar type of feel but is also very kid friendly.

The next morning we enjoyed a delicious buffet brunch at the Cibolo Moon restaurant. The signature omelet with brisket is a must!!! Kids under 4 years old eat the breakfast buffet for free which is a definite win! We snacked at the pool bar, Rivertop Grill for lunch and then went back to Cibolo Moon for an early dinner. Crawfish jalapeno cornbread fritters is not an appetizer I would typically order but I’m really glad I did because it was absolutely delicious!!! The picture below does not do it justice, trust me just order it!

For entrees my husand had the chili-seared shrimp with green chili cheddar grits which was amazing as well! I ordered the Smoked BBQ plate but I would recommend doing the BBQ buffet instead since it had so many additional options for almost the same price. The girls ate the kid’s BBQ buffet again for free!!!

What to Do:

The J.W. Marriott has an amazing pool with several large water slides, a lazy river, a toddler pool and a mini beach for kids to play in the sand! This kept the girls occupied all day long! Beach toys are even provided for the kiddos to play with which was awesome!

We took a break from playing in the afternoon and visited the make your own ice cream station at the pool which the kiddos loved! In the evening we went to one of the many fire pits at the resort and roasted marshmallows. One of the best things about this resort is the number of activities provided to help keep the kids entertained! It also offers an impressive golf course as well as a full service spa but we obviously didn’t have time to enjoy either of those this trip!

Overall, we loved our stay at this hotel! The only thing we weren’t crazy about was the additional $40 “resort fee” tagged on to our bill at the end. We received a short list of what the resort fee covered and it was a list of things we weren’t interested in – golf storage etc. The hotel is already at a high price point and this additional fee was a little bit of an annoyance, other than that we absolutely loved our stay and will be back another time!

***This blog is based on my own personal opinions I do not get paid to write for Sea World or the J.W. Marriott***
